How do you let go? How do you remember to forget?
How do you reminisce and not know?
How do you restrain your feelings?
How do you inhibit your emotions?
How do you suppress what’s appealing?
How do you curb your devotion?
How do you continue to hold it all together?
How do you persist in your mime?
How do you endure when things don’t get better?
“How do you hold on to her and let her go at the same time?”
The most important decisions in life
Are sometimes the hardest to make
You choose
You loose
You make
You break
But that’s the chance you take
Love’s decisions last for only a day
But the hurt never goes away
You sleep on it
You dine with it
You challenge it
You romance it
But you never get over it
What is there to say?
Sometimes what’s important
Never gets said
Sometimes the things that matter
Are difficult to express
You bind them
You struggle over them
You languish over them
You lament over them
Soon only to find them
Slipping away
With love there’s no exception
Pursue
Dismiss rejection
Words never spoken are words never heard
Let loose the feelings
Take a step above
For the heart can’t survive
A one-sided love
How many takes
To correct a mistake
How many tries
To dry your eyes
How many times
To make a poem rhyme
How many forgets
To dispel regrets
How many lessons learned
To begin to discern
How many lies
Before you open your eyes
As sweet fruit is to the tongue
Is the kiss on the lips
As perfume arouses the nose
Is the fragrance of the rose
As gentle to the ear
Is the knocking heart you hear
As the thrill of the touch
Is the embrace so much
As love enters the eye
Is the birth of a sigh
******************** A Drinking Song
“Wine comes in at the mouth
And love comes in at the eye:
That’s all we know for truth
Before we grow old and die.
I lift the glass to my mouth,
I look at you, and I sigh”
W.B. Yeats
On the scale of life
Where one learns to weigh
The good with the bad
One would soon discover
That weighing one with the other
Is not capable of being had
For
In life’s living tapestry
Interwoven with twisted black and white strands
Of
Unforeseen moments
Complicated relationships
Unavoidable tragedies
Where
Good is good
Bad is good
And all things are as they should
For all things that happen
Happen for the good…(Rm8:28)
A city boy
With city ways
Blue collar parents
With not much to say
Learning the lessons of life
On the street
Where good and evil
Always meet
His friends where his whole world
School never mattered
The bonds they had
Could not be shattered
Fell in love
And to this day
No other love
Has ever come his way
Unlike Frost
He took the road most traveled
Swallowed up
He watched his life unravel
Chose a career
He didn’t plan
Honors and accolades
A successful man
Alone in himself
But never alone
Surrounded by family
He called his own
Lost his manhood
One day in March
But life over death
Was the only way
A Christian man
Never did compromise
You would believe
If you look into his eyes
A compassionate man
But you would never know it
Sensitive and caring
He’d seldom showed it
Waiting the appointed time
For his soul to be awaken
To return home
His earthly life taken

“Lord make me know my end
and what is the extent of my days;
Let me know how transient I am.”
Psalm 39-4
“Behold You have made my days as handbreadths,
and my lifetime as nothing in Your sight; Surely
every man at his best is a mere breath.Surely
every man walks about like a phantom; Surely
They make an uproar for nothing; Surely
He amasses riches and does not know who will
gather them.”
Psalm 39:5-6
