Preface

I wrote my first poem in 2009 at the age of 66. I had never written a poem before. Now over 200 poems later, I’m still writing (Go figure!) My motivation? I believe as you read each poem (especially #’s 5 and 22) you will get a sense of why I wrote each poem and an insight into my character (#181).

Many poems I still cannot believe I wrote. Others I sometimes wish I didn’t write, but you can be the judge of that. I guess I’m my own worst critic.

I have selected some of my favorite poems for your enjoyment. May they inspire you to write a few yourself. Like me, you never know?     hrnumber1@outlook.com

“At the touch of love
Everyone becomes a poet”
Plato

The Day is Done

“Read from some humbler poet,
Where songs gushed  from the heart,
As showers from the clouds of summer,
Or tears from the eyelids start”

“Then read from the treasured volume
The poem of thy choice
And lend to the rhyme of the poet
The beauty of thy voice”

Longfellow
1807-1882
